History of Korean

Korean may be a language isolate, though some scholars link it to Altaic languages. Classical Korean used Chinese characters (hanja) until King Sejong created Hangul in 1443 to promote literacy. The alphabet was designed to be easy to learn, with letter shapes representing tongue positions.

Is Korean Hard to Learn?

Hard

Hangul can be learned in hours and is remarkably logical. However, Korean grammar is very different from English, with SOV word order and a complex honorific system. Pronunciation includes sounds not found in English.
